The new consultant will be responsible for the provision of urological services. There is no formal emergency on call commitment. Urological emergencies will be admitted under the care of the on call general surgical consultant and transferred to the urologist the next working day.
It would be expected however for the appointee to be available for advice and immediate post-operative care and to provide an emergency service on an ad hoc basis depending on availability. There are close links with Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for secondary referrals such as stone work and major surgery such as cystectomy and radical prostatectomy but there is abundant opportunity for the appointee to develop a special interest in his/her practice.
